Rum

Rum is produced exclusively by alcoholic fermentation and distillation, either from molasses or syrup produced in the manufacture of cane sugar or from sugar cane juice itself. It comes in an enormous variety of characters and types. Further blending can create endless variations within the product. There is no uniform measure to classify the different Rum-types, the only thing they have in common is their sugar cane base. The Main Rum Company handles the full range and has developed great expertise in blending the various types according to customer needs.

Rum is produced in cane-growing climates throughout the world. Each region has its own style and traditions. Fermentation methods vary widely from industrially controlled to naturally wild. Rum is produced in a wide range of stills, from very artisan Pot Stills to state of the art Column Stills.

Rum is used as a base product in many industries, and each application has its own specific needs. Apart from the obvious use in alcoholic beverages, Rum is also used in the culinary trade, confectionery, tobacco and aroma manufacturing.

The Continuous Still process produces light to medium flavoured rum. The Pot Still output contains more congeners than a Column Still, thus produces a fuller flavour, medium to heavy rum. It is the higher ester rum produced by the Pot Still method that is commonly used in confectionery and by the tobacco and aroma industries.
